Here's a few pics I have taken lately. My kids are pretty cute if I do say so myself ;)

A bit about my shopping

I have been couponing for nearly 3 years and stockpiling food for about 2 years.

I rarely buy anything that is not either on sale and/or has a coupon.

Couponing isn't just an afterthought to shopping.. to really make it work it has to be the basis of your shopping.

In a typical week I will ONLY buy the items listed with coupons match ups, with some exceptions

Staple items I buy..
Kroger Bread .88
Kroger slice cheese 1.29
Kroger sliced meat 1.39
Ramen Noodles .15 each
Kroger brand butter ?
Blue Bonnet sticks for baking .70?
Kroger brand drink mix $1.79
( I may add more later as it comes to me)

I try to make what meals I can with what we have.. we have a pretty good source of items.. some a bit odd.. I currently have more Royal Jello in my house than Walgreen's actually has in stock at the local store.. and it has nothing to do with being Mormon LOL

On occasion I will buy an impulse treat.. maybe a package of store brand cookies or an item I really like and the sale and coupons have since passed..

Its taken some adjusting.. but its worth it.. in many ways. I never pay full price for food and we always have food on hand.

I no longer use products I use to and I use alot of products I never thought I would.. My kids never ate fruit roll ups.. they were too expensive.. now I get em free or close to it.. I use to use Tide loyaly..but I have learned that not only are other brands cheaper.. but my clothes are just as clean. CVS and Walgreens practicaly give away ALL and Arm & Hammer. I dont shop the way I use to,.. and it actualy takes less time.. each and every trip is carefully laid out. I know exactly what I am getting. no more no less no forgotten items... well usually ;)

Fast Food

so today we took a drive and the kids wasked if we could stop at McDonalds.. we rarely go and this one had a huge play space

so we stopped in, each got an apple pie (2/$1) and the kids played while DH and I talked.

It got me thinking..When you budget a meal for your entire family around $5 its really hard to buy a fast food meal for one person for $5!

Just something to think about next time you stop in for a quick bite! that $5 could feed a whole family! or you for 10 meals! LOL

Product Dating: Dates on product packages recommend purchase or "use-by" dates. They are not safety dates. Product dating is voluntary and not required by federal regulations (except for infant formula and some baby foods).

Types of Dates:

1. A "sell-by" date tells the store how long to display the product for sale. You should buy the product before the date expires to have sufficient time to use it at best quality.
2. A "best if used by" date is recommended for best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date.
3. A "use-by" date is the last date recommend-ed for the use of the product while at peak quality and has been determined by the manufacturer of the product.
4. "Closed or coded dates" are packing numbers for use by the manufacturer to rotate the stock as well as to locate their products in the event of a recall.

The best temperature for storing canned foods is between 50 °F and 70 °F

A bulging lid or leaking can is a sign of spoilage.

Recommended Storage for Unopened Canned Foods in a Cool, Dry Pantry:

2. Smart Source aka SS
3. Proctor & Gamble aka P&G

4. General Mills GM

The P&G comes out monthly.. as does the GM the others are weekly sometimes 2 different ones in one week.. ie SS1 and SS2
so you may see some of my notes say something like this

That means the coupon was in the 1st Smart source insert on Sept 13th.. pretty simple
