A New Year

I am not one for making resolutions.. its just never been my thing. Its not that I am unwilling to better myself, its that most New Years Resolutions have such a short life span and the goals only seem to begin in January.. no one ever says in June. 'hey I need to start a diet" or on black friday think "maybe I should work on saving up a few grand".. like new starts are limited to one small window of time.. its just seemed superficial.

So anyhow, on Sunday , during a lesson, I was reading a list of things to do to help become a successful family.. who doesn't want that!? I thought, what a great list to work from.. things I already knew I was supposed to be doing, but have been, well, less ambitious to do.. becasue after all, it is hard work

so here's the list

All of us want to have happy, successful families. The following things will help us achieve this:

* 1. Have family prayer every night and morning
* 2. Teach children the gospel by meeting together as a family at least once a week to study gospel principles. “There shouldn’t be—there mustn’t be—one family in this Church that doesn’t take the time to read from the scriptures every day” (H. Burke Peterson, in Conference Report, Apr. 1975, p. 79; or Ensign, May 1975, pp. 53–54).
* 3. Do things together as a family, such as work projects, outings, and decision making.
* 4. Kneel together as husband and wife each night in prayer.
* 5. Learn to be kind, patient, long-suffering, and charitable
* 6. Attend church meetings regularly
* 7. Follow the counsel of the Lord in D&C 88:119: “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.”
* 8. Keep a family history and gather family genealogy.

The family is the most important unit in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church exists to help families gain eternal blessings and exaltation. The organizations and programs within the Church are designed to strengthen us individually and help us live as families forever.

so these are some things I need to work on to really let that self discipline I have be put to the test.

  1. Sounds like a pretty good start. Family IS important. God put his church here on earth to bring us to salvation in Jesus. That is why He sends Mary to us so often-we need our Mothers help!
