My Deals Today

So I hit the Quaker cereal deal at Kroger today. In the pic is 20 boxes of cereal and 20 boxes of oatmeal. I also picked up three jars of jelly at Walmart. I paid $27.25 for the Quaker products and $3.24 for the jelly.. Total savings on these items was....... $120.95

The cereal was on sale for 4/$10 and save an additional $4 when you buy 4. (I know.. crazy way to word a sale huh!) and I had coupons that were $1/2 and some .50/1 that doubled. The oatmeal was on sale 2/$4 and save and additional $1 when you buy 2. I had $1/1 and $1.35/2 coupons. I could get 4 boxes of cereal and 2 boxes of oatmeal per transaction.. so I had to do quite a few transactions..

The oatmeal had more coupons inside so I went back out and got more cereal and some rainchecks.. I also picked up 2 gallons milk ($1.99 a gallon) to go with the cereal. I also got some salsa that was on sale $1 each and I had $1/2 coupons

In all today I bought 193.78 worth of groceries and paid $38.75 for them... thats $155.03 that I saved today... and it was much easier than grooming dogs LOL

A day of no chores

Ever wish you had a day with no chores? Noting to be done at all by feed yourself and relax?

I thought that could never be done.. especially with 7 kids.. but with planning it can be done..

It now almost 9 am on Saturday.. I have laundry going, cleaning up etc.. then off to work.. By the time I go to bed tonight all that needs to be done will be done and I will be able to spend my day tomorrow focusing my mind on God and family..

I cant wait

Breakfast ideas

Our goal is to spend $5 or less per meal.. that breaks down to about .55 per person per meal.. so for a family of say 4 thats $just over $2 per meal..

some things we eat for breakfast

oatmeal
cereal ( I got quaker cereal for .50 a box this week at Kroger)
Fruit and Cinnamon toast
Pancakes
French Toast
Eggs in a basket - here's how we do it.

The kids are enjoying the spring weather.. We have had some rain off and on.

Urijah is officially walking.. He is so excited.. As is Olivia.. she is his biggest cheerleader.. LOL

I have been grooming a little.. still trying to decide if I want to be employer or employee. the pros and cons are being weighed out..such a tough decision.

Trying to get back into the groove of things.. getting our routines back down

Food Storage

A second part of couponing and running a large family is food storage.. We were unpacking our kitchen and reorganizing yesterday so I prepped for a blog..

I picked up this find yesterday off freecycle..

Keeping your food storage organized just take a bit of creativeness

I found these organizer bins at the dollar tree

I have taken items out of the original box and stored them in here.. the jello has been labeled.. I have decreased storage space quite a bit..

You can also re use items in your home.. For example
these are empty baby wipes tubs

Buying in bulk is great.. but in most cases we buy multiples of regular size items.. on sale with coupons we save more money that way

For example.. the stove top.. we paid about .70 a box for these.. not the best deal but a good one still.. The canned veggies were 3/$1. the pasta .50 a box and the peanut butter were .25 each.

Now if you dont have a large family to feed, dont give up on food storage.. many of these items have a shelf life of several years.. and why pay $2 for a jar of peanut butter later when you can get it for .25 now.. if it will be used in its shelf life... its a good deal.
